Who is Ed Fisher?
Ed Fisher has been directly involved in
advertising, publishing and media sales in the Detroit market for over thirty
years. Following is a summary of his considerable experience and
accomplishments.
Upon graduation from Wayne State University,
Ed began his advertising career as a salesman in his father's rep firm,
the Walter & Fisher Company. Ed's father was one of the first
independent publisher's representatives in this market. The firm represented
Playbill, Performing Arts, Financial
World and Natural History. After several
successful years together, Mr. Fisher began to wind down his business and
plan his retirement. Intrigued by the ad agency side of the business,
Ed decided to move over to the other side of the desk.
Fisher's six year agency career included
media positions at Campbell-Ewald, D'Arcy MacManus & Masius and Young
& Rubicam. He worked on a range of automotive-related accounts
including Chevrolet, Cadillac, Chrysler-Plymouth, Ford Parts & Service
and Lincoln-Mercury. He began
as a budget coordinator and newspaper buyer and successively moved into
more senior positions as media planner and media buyer across all media
disciplines. One of his agency highlights was his inclusion among
only 26 participants from around the globe in a Y&R sponsored five and
one half week Advertising Skills Workshop. This learning experience
provided Ed with invaluable training in the entire advertising process.
It was of great help to his understanding of client/agency and agency/ media
relationships as well as the planning, buying and selling roles.
However, Fisher also learned that his first
love was space sales. So, when Southern Living
magazine announced an opening, he applied and was hired as a local sales
rep. Ed spent nearly ten years there during which time he was promoted
to Detroit Office Manager. He broke new business with American Motors
and Proctor & Gamble, neither of which had run in the territory before.
Fisher and one other sales rep covered the entire states of Michigan and
Ohio and their office broke all previous sales records.
With a proven sales and new business track
record as well as a reputation for integrity and creativity, Crain's
Automotive News recruited Ed to be its Assistant
Sales Manager. Within two years, Fisher was promoted to Advertising
Director.
This senior level experience led Ed Fisher
full circle. In 1993, he launched Ed Fisher & Company, Media
Representatives. From the beginning, Ed Fisher & Company was determined
to provide media sales capabilities across all media disciplines for the
automotive industry. This strategy fit with Ed's prior broad media
and agency experience. Fisher also recognized the often untapped opportunities
that exist in the market for niche marketing efforts. As you can see
from the site's clients
page , Ed Fisher & Company represents a diverse client list that includes
consumer, trade and farm publications as well as an internet client.
Over the years, Ed Fisher has directly worked
on several major automotive accounts as a senior media executive, he has
successful sold advertising programs for a variety of media products in
various product categories and he currently calls on and is known by virtually
all of the core media planners and buyers in the Detroit automotive market.
